Sashiko - Japanese Embroidery Workshop

Join us to learn the art of sashiko in this beginner embroidery workshop. Sashiko, which means "little stabs," is a Japanese art of stitching beautiful patterns using running stitch. Nowadays, this technique is used more for decoration and embellishment, You will work on a pre-printed sashiko design, create decorative yet simple embroidery using traditional sashiko needles and thread. You'll learn how to mark up a geometric pattern using markers and stencils, learn how to evenly stitch sashiko patterns

Fiber Necklace Workshop - Richmond Art Center - April 14th 11am-1pm

This class is about using re-purposed materials like rope, plumbing hardware, and leftover yarn to make a yarn wrapped rope necklaces. Students will learn how to make tassels, hand wrap a rope and take home their own tassel necklace. All materials will be provided ( cotton rope, yarn in different colors, copper hardware, glue, and needles) This is a fun, easy and quick project and you will end up making a necklace for everyone you know :) Beginners Class; no experience required

Learn Shibori techniques in this hands-on beginners workshop with instructor Rajni Kavula. You will design, dye and take home projects of your own. You will get to create beautiful designs using a few Shibori techniques with cotton fabric to take home and make projects of your own (place mats, pillow cover, napkins, etc.) You will also get to design and dye 2 bandannas for your furry friends, in a choice of colors.

*** We ask you to dye two extra bandannas that will be donated to a local animal shelter

*** 10% of class fees will also be donated. Join a group of students and immerse in an afternoon of fun and creativity! All dyeing materials provided. You can bring a couple of your own small goods to dye - please no bedding, duvet covers, curtains, etc.
